Makoto Minami
Minami also worked with Arata on Arata's masterpiece, the extraordinary Koshien Hotel, completed in
1930. The two men ran an office together in Manchuria from 1933 - 1946, building the Manchurian Central
Bank Club and an array of impressive residences for Manchurian Railway executives.
Although he never developed Arata's spatial mastery, Minami also essayed about a dozen of his own
Wrightian designs, with bold horizontals and varying rooflines. (KS)
