Aisaku Hayashi House Tokyo, 1917
Wright's first residential project outside North America was this home, designed for Imperial Hotel
Manager Aisaku Hayashi and his large family.
The design was a reversion for the architect, whose Prairie period had ended nearly a decade before.
The single-story wooden structure featured a rough stone fireplace in the expansive living room, which
opened onto a small pool at the back of the house.
The house was remodeled repeatedly over the years and today, only the living room is intact. It is
privately owned and not open to the public.
